8 Eyelash Extension Facts Every Lash Lover Should Know

Eyelash extension facts give you the power to make the best choices for your precious peepers. And that’s a great thing because rumors, myths and urban legends always circulate when it comes to beauty procedures. Eyelash extensions are no different.

Well, today we’re going to dispel those rumors and set things straight by talking about 8 eyelash extension facts that everyone should know.

Is it true they don’t require maintenance? Will they make your natural lashes fall off? Is it risky to get extensions? Let’s find out!

Do eyelash extensions destroy your natural lashes?

This is probably the number one most circulated myth about lash extensions: they’ll damage your lashes!

We’re here to tell you that no, there is no reason for your natural lashes to suffer – as long as you go to a good lash technician. This is one expense you don’t want to skimp on!

With a skilled technician, the aftermath of lash extensions is a gradual letdown – not a total fallout. What happens once all the extensions fall off is that one is left with their natural lashes, which, by comparison, look much less impressive than the extensions.

After you get used to looking glamorous, it can be disappointing to go back. However, if they are applied correctly, with the correct amount of glue and are not too heavy, they should not damage your natural lashes.

Do lash extensions make your natural lashes fall out?

And speaking of the fact that they don’t damage them, they don’t make them fall out, either. This myth originated because natural lashes can get ripped out or fall out with the extensions, if they are applied incorrectly.

What we mean by that is that every single lash needs to be glued individually and when they are not, they end up glued together in clumps with your natural ones, much like “individual” false lashes.

If they are applied incorrectly this way, then natural lashes can indeed be ripped out when extensions are. Yet another reason to be selective about the lash extension technician you choose.

Lash extensions are a tried and tested service

A lot of people mistakenly believe that lash extensions are a new service and that it cannot be trusted, but lash extensions have been around for years!

They’ve been perfected, tested, and applied on hundreds of thousands of clients, so there is nothing to worry about – you’re no one’s guinea pig.

If it helps calm your fears, then just make sure that you do a lot of research before you set up an appointment.

Like with any other service, there will be more experienced and talented technicians and ones that are less skilled, or simply less experienced.

Looking at reviews and at some of their previous work – Instagram is great for this! – can show you a pretty clear picture of how the technician performs and what you can expect from your lashes.

With lash extensions, you get what you pay for

Some things are worth saving money on – nail polish, store brand frozen peas, but not your eyelash extensions. By no means does that mean you should go for the most expensive ones you can find, but don’t book them at the cheapest place available, either.

More often than not, you are able to tell the difference between a skilled, talented, experienced technician who charges what they’re worth and the newbie technician who just finished the training course and is charging the lowest rate on the market.

Lash extensions can look as natural as you want

This is one of the most important eyelash extension facts that everyone should know – simply because it’s the one misunderstanding that influences so many people’s decisions.

It’s true that a lot of the images you see of lash extensions – especially the ones used in advertising – are of very dramatic sets. They’re meant to show off the results that can be obtained with this kind of service, impress potential clients, and attract new people to the salon.

However, that can skew the perception and create the impression that extensions can only be dramatic, but nothing could be farther from the truth! Extensions can be as natural as you want, case in point:

Don’t allow this misconception to turn you off. Instead, go in and ask your technician for the look you want – there are many options for lash extensions so explore to your heart’s content before you commit.

Lash extensions should be completely comfortable

There are often concerns about how comfortable lash extensions really are – surely they must be heavy, itchy, and scratchy, right? Actually, no!

If they are the right size and they are applied correctly, your extensions should be completely comfortable. They should not feel heavy on your eyes, shouldn’t tickle or scratch your brow bone, and shouldn’t cause you any discomfort whatsoever.

If your extensions do feel uncomfortable, you most likely had the wrong size applied. In that case, don’t give up on lashes just yet – try a smaller pair next time and see how you like them. We guarantee you’ll change your mind.

Lash extensions do need a little bit of maintenance

It’s very true that lash extensions pare down your beauty routine. You wake up feeling more made-up, you probably use less makeup, and you cut down on the time you spend double-cleansing in the evening. Perfect!

But not so fast – that doesn’t mean they are completely no-maintenance. Like any other service like this, they do require a bit of care and attention.

Here is how you can care for your extensions to keep them looking fresh and fluttery for as long as possible:

  • Avoid wetting them too much
  • Avoid oils around your eyes
  • Make sure to brush them every day
  • Avoid waterproof products
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes or pulling

That’s pretty much the gist of it but check out the full guide on how to make your lash extensions last a really long time!

Can you go blind from lash extensions?

We don’t know where this rumor came from, or if someone ever had eyesight problems related to lashes, but no, you will not go blind from eyelash extensions (we shouldn’t even need to say this…)

And the whole blindness-from-lash-extensions myth isn’t something you should be overly concerned with! Putting things near the eye always makes people a little squeamish, because it’s a very sensitive area, and it feels very vulnerable.

However, please rest assured that you will not go blind because of your eyelash extensions. You may experience incorrect applications if your lashes are applied at a less than reputable salon, but even so, that won’t have such dramatic effects on eye health.

As you can see, you can’t listen to every urban legend you read online or that’s circulating at the local hair salon! Eyelash extensions are fab, and as long as you keep in mind these facts, they should help you look and feel glamorous!

  1. It’s good to know that lash extensions should be comfortable and not heavy on the eye. My daughter is getting into makeup and she is worried that fake eyelashes will cause her real eyelashes to worsen so she is hesitant to wear them. I’ll let her know that any eyelashes she buys should be comfortable as could be.
